Ben Lake, Plaid Cymru’s candidate for Ceredigion in the upcoming general election on December 12th has extended his support to Friends of the Earth’s pledge to fight the climate breakdown should he be re-elected to Parliament later this month.

The pledge calls on politicians to vote to support measures that would cut greenhouse gas emissions and build a fairer and greener society.

Ben Lake said:

“Plaid Cymru understands that climate change, coupled with the global collapse of biodiversity, is the defining challenge of our time.

“Over the past two and a half years as Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, I was proud of my record in challenging the UK Government on their climate and environmental policies, as well as promoting measures to decarbonise the economy.

“I supported Parliamentary calls for ‘Climate Emergency’ declaration, successfully opposed the seismic survey in Cardigan Bay, and worked with colleagues from across the House to promote legislation on single-use plastic. Should I be fortunate enough to be re-elected, I will continue to support efforts to bring about urgent action to address the climate crisis – before it is too late.”

Plaid Cymru’s manifesto has outlined commitments to address the climate emergency - including proposals to deliver Green Jobs Revolution which will ensure that Wales makes the transition to becoming 100% self-sufficient in renewable energy by 2030.
