Elin Jones MS supports Save our Surgeries event at the Senedd

Elin Jones MS was pleased to attend an event discussing the future of Ceredigion GP surgeries with the British Medical Association (BMA) recently at the Senedd.

Ms Jones was particularly pleased to hold a discussion between Dr Sue Fish of Borth Surgery and the Health Minister Eluned Morgan MS.

Speaking after the event Elin said: “It was so important for the Health Minister to hear directly about the challenges of retaining a small rural surgery from Dr Sue Fish of Borth Surgery. The Minister heard how difficult it is to get GP partners to take over smaller practices and the need to keep training more GPs and other staff based at GP surgeries.

My view is that the Health Board should be developing a 10-year Primary Care Workforce Plan for Ceredigion with the GP practices so that we have a clear picture of where the current gaps in staffing lie, and how those gaps can be filled by training and recruiting over the next 10 years. We need proactive planning rather than reactive action, which is often too late.”
