Plaid Cymru Cabinet Decides Not to Charge for Parking on Aberystwyth Promenade

Ceredigion Council's Plaid Cymru cabinet today decided not to proceed with a suggestion for charging for parking on Aberystwyth Promenade.

The idea had been proposed by the council's Thriving Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee, containing a mix of backbench councillors from around the county, as part of a package of parking measures for towns across the county. The cabinet agreed to 'note' the proposal only and to take no action.

Cllr Alun Williams said:

“In discussions it had been pointed out that a number of initiatives in the pipeline are likely to impact on the prom.  These include the Old College project (currently underway), the Shared Prosperity Fund for the harbour area and a potential sea defence scheme.

These projects are likely to take a number of years and so, even if it was considered desirable, in practical terms the infrastructure work entailed in arranging for charging for parking on the prom cannot take place in the foreseeable future.”
