Elin raises concerns over Tregaron sorting office

Local AM Elin Jones has called for the future of Tregaron’s Royal Mail sorting office to be clarified.

The Post Office in the town is due to move from its current location to the Spar shop on the square. However the present Post Office branch is also home to a sorting office and parcel pick-up point, and no information has been received on how this will be affected by the change.

Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru AM for Ceredigion, said;

"There’s a lot of uncertainty at the moment, both in Aberystwyth with the possible closure of the Crown Post Office, and now the issue of the Post Office and sorting office in Tregaron.

"This sorting office employs a number of Royal Mail staff, and also serves as a location for customers to pick up parcels. It’s vital that the change in the Post Office branch location doesn’t have a negative effect on mail services in the area. Royal Mail must make clear to staff and to local residents what their plans are."

Catherine Hughes, county councillor for Tregaron, said;

"I’m very concerned that the future of the sorting office is still up in the air. There’s a real lack of communication on this issue, and I hope that the Royal Mail will come to meet with the Community Council. Seven people work in the sorting office; these are jobs that we mustn’t lose from Tregaron."
