Elin Jones calls for new law to guarantee range of services at Bronglais
Ceredigion Plaid Cymru candidate Elin Jones has put forward the bold proposal to enshrine in law the services that should be provided by full District General Hospitals such as Bronglais.
New Cardigan Hospital will have beds if Elin becomes Minister
Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru candidate for Ceredigion, has pledged that if she is appointed Health Minister after the Welsh elections on May 5, the new Cardigan hospital would incorporate inpatient beds.
Building work on the replacement for the old Cardigan Hospital is due to start within the next year. However currently, it’s intended that inpatient bed capacity will be outsourced to voluntary and private providers, with the new development housing a range of primary and community care facilities.

An important day for the NHS in Ceredigion
On Thursday, 24 March, the Health Minister visited Ceredigion to launch two new initiatives.
In the morning, at Aberystwyth Unviersity, the Centre for Excellence in Rural Healthcare was launched, which will help the Mid-Wales Collaborative build links with professional bodies and specialist researchers in planning our future NHS. In the afternoon, the Minister visited Tregaron to launch the Cylch Caron project, which will bring together hospital, residential care, primary care and a range of other functions in one modern building.
Elin Jones reveals extent of cancelled NHS ops
A Freedom of Information request by Plaid Cymru has revealed that there were 174,996 cancelled operations at hospitals in Wales during 2013-14, 2014-15 and the first six months of 2015-16. This is an average of 1,346 operations being cancelled every week.
The problem highlights the need for measures to increase recruitment of nurses and doctors, as proposed by Elin Jones.
Elin Jones presses for ambulance service improvements
Ceredigion's AM Elin Jones is pressing for improvements to the local ambulance service. Ceredigion currently has one of the worst ambulance response times in Wales, with the tendency for crews to be drawn out of the area to deal with emergencies in other areas after transferring patients to larger hospitals partly to blame.
Improving Cancer Treatment for All
Plaid Cymru has committed itself to improving care for cancer patients in Wales. Ceredigion's AM and Plaid Cymru Shadow Health Minister Elin Jones said that currently, patients in Wales were losing out because of excessive waiting times in Wales for basic diagnostic tests, and due to a postcode lottery for some drugs and treatments.
