Tirymynach

On Thursday 17th of October 2024 there will be a by-election to elect the next County Councillor for Tirymynach Ward. Jonathan Evershed will be the Plaid Cymru candidate.

A message from Jonathan:

"I know what a privilege it is to live in this wonderful part of Wales, but also know the challenges we are facing. I am ready to put my skills and energy to work for Tirymynach, and to make sure that our community's voice is heard, loud and clear."

I grew up on a farm in Clarach and was educated at Penglais.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to spend time studying and working in London and Ireland. But the pull of this area, where my family’s roots run deep, and the desire to build a life here, brought me back.

As a researcher I work closely with Senedd members such as Elin Jones and Rhun ap Iorwerth, to develop ideas on how to improve people’s lives in areas such as ours.

Too often, governments at various levels don’t really understand communities such as ours.

· I’m passionate about defending the public services on which we all rely.

· We need to provide opportunities – jobs and housing – to keep young people in the area.

· Businesses and community enterprises need to be supported more effectively.

If I was lucky enough to represent my home area on the Council, you have my word that I would devote my energy and ideas to represent everyone who lives here, and make sure our voice is heard loud and clear.

Jonathan

“Jonathan is a young man of exceptional ability and energy. He came back to his home due to his passion for making rural Wales a better place to live and work. His drive and new ideas would make a real difference on Ceredigion Council.” Elin Jones MS

My Priorities:

Public Services | I believe in protecting public services, which we know are under threat right across the country. Our area can only thrive if we invest in public transport, the NHS, and schools such as Rhydypennau.

Promoting Our Community | An active councillor can play a role in fostering a sense of community. We have a revitalised village hall, an active football club and much more; I would work to ensure that everyone has access to community activities.

Road Safety | With the busy A487, and the roads to Clarach running through the heart of this area, we must ensure proper safety for pedestrians, appropriate lighting and road maintenance.

A Fair Deal | Rural areas don’t get a fair deal from the Labour Welsh Government in terms of funding for local government; I would campaign alongside Elin Jones MS and Ben Lake MP to put this right.

“Jonathan would be a fresh, positive and creative voice for change on Ceredigion Council. He has the ability and energy to be an outstanding local councillor for Bow Street, Dole, Clarach and Llangorwen.” Ben Lake MP
