Ben Lake, the Member of Parliament for Ceredigion, has questioned the Chief Executives of Natural Resources Wales and Ofwat regarding the serious failings of the regulatory regime which failed to prevent years of illegal sewage discharged into the river Teifi.

In an exchange before the Welsh Affairs Select Committee in the House of Commons, Clare Pillman, Natural Resources Wales’ chief executive, defended the regulator's lack of prosecutions for thousands of days’ worth of illegal sewage discharges in the river Teifi.  

Data compiled by mathematician and former UCL professor Peter Hammond confirmed that the river Teifi has suffered a higher level of pollution than any other river in Wales in recent years.

Plaid Cymru Cabinet Decides Not to Charge for Parking on Aberystwyth Promenade

Ceredigion Council's Plaid Cymru cabinet today decided not to proceed with a suggestion for charging for parking on Aberystwyth Promenade.

Local Plaid Cymru politicians have led last gasp efforts urging the Welsh Government to save the vital fflecsi Bwcabus service, which is due to be scrapped from the 31 October 2023.

The fflecsi Bwcabus (previously Bwcabus) has been operating for 14 years, serving rural parts of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire. It provides an essential service for many residents without access to cars or the main public transport network to reach other villages and towns for work, shopping, and medical treatment.

However, in late September 2023 the Welsh Government unexpectedly announced that the funding for the service would be cut – providing only 4 weeks’ notice to users and politicians of the termination of the service.

Congratulations to Shelley Childs who was chosen as the candidate for Plaid Cymru in the upcoming by-election in Aberystwyth Penparcau. The county council by-election will be held on Thursday, the 16th of November. 

Shelley has lived and worked in Penparcau for many years and is well known in the area. Equally, he understands his neighbourhood and is aware of the challenges faced by the people of Penparcau. 

This is an opportunity to discuss the future of community transport in rural areas with Elin Jones MS, Ben Lake MP, Dolen Teifi as well as representatives from the local authorities.

Corporate greed ‘morally indefensible’, says Plaid Cymru Treasury spokesperson
